Beach Bits: • Entering
the 2026 season Evans played his first 82 tournaments (excluding AVP
League) with 22 different partners, and has now played the last 49
events with Chase Budinger. 2025: Evans
continued his partnership with Budinger,
placing second in the AVP season opener in Huntington Beach followed by
winning in Manhattan Beach. They again played for the San Diego Smash
in the AVP League, and again finished 4-4 in the regular season but lost
in the quarterfinals of the League Championship. Evans and Budinger
competed 13 times on the World Tour, advancing to two semifinals
including winning a silver medal in a Challenge event. 2024: Evans
and Budinger placed third in both of their AVP tournaments. The duo
competed for the San Diego Smash in the inaugural season of the AVP
League. After compiling a 4-4 regular season record the duo won their
semifinal match and lost in the championship match but combined with the
women's duo to win the Golden Set and claim the League Championship.
Evans and Budinger played 12 World Tour events together, using a pair of
fourths and four fifths to qualify for the Paris Olympics, where the
duo placed ninth. They won a gold in their only NORCECA event. 2023: Evans began a new partnership with Chase Budinger, placing second in their debut
in the AVP season opener in Miami. The duo added another second and a
third, plus finished fifth three times in their six AVP tournaments
together. Internationally the duo played 13 times. After losing in the
qualifier in their first outing the advanced from the qualifier to win a
silver in a Challenge event in Brazil. Evans and Budinger lost in the
qualifier in the Olympic test event in Paris, followed by a 17th in the
World Championships in Mexico. They later won a gold and a bronze in
Challenge events. 2022: Evans played eight AVP events
alongside three different partners. He partnered with Ed Ratledge three
times with a best of fifth on the Tour Series. He paired with Andy
Benesh for the first time and the duo won a Tour Series event in Denver
after losing in the first round then winning seven straight matches.
After a seventh and ninth with Avery Drost, he played twice more with
Benesh, including a third in Manhattan Beach. Internationally Evans
played seven times with three different partners. After losing in a
qualifier with Logan Webber the duo then advanced from a Futures
qualifier and won a silver medal. Evans and Benesh also won a silver
medal after advancing from the qualifier before getting a pair of ninths
and a 17th. Evans concluded the season with a fourth alongside Paul
Lotman. 2021: Evans played three AVP tournaments with
three different partners. He placed seventh with Ricardo Santos, then
had ninths with Piotr Marciniak and Troy Field. Internationally Evans
and Billy Kolinske played six times and played twice with Troy Field.
Evans and Kolinske lost three country quota matches, twice in the
qualifier, and placed ninth in Rwanda. Evans won medals in both one star
events with Field, getting a silver and then a gold. 2020: Evans
played all three AVP events in Long Beach with Ricardo Santos. They
played in the qualifier each time, and finished 11th followed by a pair
of sevenths. Evans and Doherty finished fifth in an FIVB three star
event before losing in a country quota match with Theo Brunner. 2019: Evans played six
AVP events with three different partners. He lost in qualifiers with
Marty Lorenz and Avery Drost, then played four times with Ryan Doherty.
In their debut the placed second in Hermosa Beach. Evans and Kolinske
competed eight times on the FIVB Tour, with a best of
ninth three times including twice after advancing from the qualifier.
Evans and Ryan Doherty won a bronze medal on the NORCECA Tour. 2018: Evans
and Billy Kolinske played 15 FIVB tournaments together. They won a
silver in a one star event and a bronze in a two star event to start the
season. The duo placed third in their only domestic event on a
different tour, then had a seventh and a pair of ninths. 2017: Evans played five
tournaments on four different tours. He lost in an AVP qualifier with
Brian Cook but won another domestic event with Dave Palm.
Internationally Evans and Billy Kolinske placed ninth in an FIVB one
star event, and won a silver and a gold on the NORCECA Tour. Four other
times they advanced from the qualifier and were also seeded directly
into the main draw five times. 2016: Evans played
three AVP qualifiers, beginning with Curt Toppel in Huntington Beach. In
that event they qualified for the main draw, and in the contender's
bracket won consecutive matches against an indoor Olympian (Dave
McKienzie), a forfeit win over Phil Dalhausser and Nick Lucena, and then
a three-set win over Todd Rogers, placing fifth. Evans then lost twice
in AVP qualifiers with Spencer McLachlin. Evans and McLachlin played in
three NORCECA tournaments, getting two fourths and a bronze medal. 2015: Evans
and Michael Brunsting lost in the AVP qualifier in Chicago. Evans and
Ian Satterfield placed 11th in the Pan Am Games and finished fourth in a
NORCECA event. 2014: Evans made his AVP debut in
Huntington Beach alongside Matt Jones and had three upset wins before
losing in the qualifier and placing 17th. played one event on another
tour with Abel Gustafson, losing in the qualifier. 2013: Did not compete. 2012: Evans again played in Manhattan Beach, losing in the qualifier with Shane Cervantes. 2011: Evans made his pro beach volleyball debut in Manhattan Beach with Morgan Mainz, finishing 49th.
College: Evans
began his collegiate career at Santa Barbara City College. He was cut
during his first season, then returned as a sophomore and led the state
in kills. He then played two seasons indoors at Cal Santa Barbara,
leading the team in kills and was second in aces, blocks and digs in his
junior season there. Nationally he ranked 20th in kills per set (3.46)
and 41st in digs (1.74).
Personal: Evans
began playing volleyball during his sophomore year in high school.
Following college he moved to Hermosa Beach to pursue a career in beach
volleyball.
